Hi everyone!

My name is Emily and I love writing about film. Last year I graduated from university and found that I don’t write about films as much anymore (which why would I really?) even though it was my passion and what I loved the most about my degree. So I’ve decided to continue on my writing journey and create this blog, Em’s Close Up Captures.

For 3 years, I studied at York St John University on the Film Studies course. I absolutely loved learning about all areas of film, even those I’m not particularly interested in, myself. I never stopped trying my hardest to produce good work, and that finally paid off when I graduated with a first class degree. I don’t think I could have done it if I didn’t enjoy the course so much!

I want to use this page to have fun and re-kindle my passion for critiquing and analysing films (although I might occasionally dabble into theatre and TV). Every month, I intent to upload a post twice; one will be a critique of a film out in the cinema that month, and the other will be about something pre-existing. This might be an interview with my friends and family about their favourite films and analysing it myself, or watching my favourite films from my childhood and seeing if I still think they’re as amazing as I used to think they were (spoiler: I probably will).

When I’m not watching and writing about films, I’m usually either reading or playing my piano or guitar. I also spend a lot of time with my parents and my friends and love playing with my Springer Spaniel, Milo. I spend every weekend with my girlfriend, when we try and cram as many adventures in as possible!

Hope you enjoy reading my posts!

Also for those of you who will be wondering, my favourite film is Ratatouille – always has been, always will be.
